Diagnosis and Treatment for Hip Pain

Hip pain is a common complaint that can affect individuals of all ages and lifestyles, from athletes to older adults. It can arise from a variety of causes, including injury, inflammation, overuse, or underlying joint conditions. Such as Trochanteric bursitis, Tendonitis or tendinopathy, Muscle strain or tears, Hip joint effusion, Hip osteoarthritis, and Snapping hip syndrome.

The treatment for hip pain depends on the underlying cause but often includes a combination of rest, ice and heat therapy and ultrasound-guided steroid injections. Ultrasound guidance of Corticosteroid injections and Hyaluronic acid injections ensures that the injection is placed precisely, improving effectiveness and safety. Early and accurate diagnosis is essential for successful treatment and recovery.

Private Ultrasound Scan Testimonials

"Dr S I Mahmood is passionate, considerate and, most importantly, knowledgeable. I was completely at ease and was allotted a generous amount of time with him to really make sure I understood what was being said. Booked online less than 12 hrs before coming in, process easy peasy. I have previously used a woman in Harley Street for ultrasounds - NO LONGER. My scan today was the cheapest I could find in Berkshire, yet the consultant himself and the services he provides are unmatched in my experience. Literally zero wait time.
Thank you, doctor! Alyss Prichard

Foot Pain Treatment FAQs

What is ultrasound?

Ultrasound is a fantastic tool that has revolutionised the current Physical and medical practice.

Ultrasound constructs the pictures of the muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and joints (small or big) throughout the body. It helps diagnose sports injuries, sprains, strains, muscle tears, trapped nerves, arthritis and rheumatology conditions.

Ultrasound does not use radiation and is considered the safest, non-invasive modality for musculoskeletal problems, whether sports/ work or age-related.

What is Ultrasound Imaging of the Musculoskeletal System?

Ultrasound imaging is a non-ionising and non-invasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. It is safe and painless. It produces pictures of the inside of the body using sound waves. Ultrasound imaging is also called sonography. It uses a small probe called a transducer and gel placed directly on the skin. High-frequency sound waves travel from the probe through the gel into the body. The probe collects the sounds that bounce back. A computer uses those sound waves to create an image. Ultrasound exams do not use radiation (No x-rays). Because ultrasound captures images in real time, it can show the structure and motion of the body organs. Thanks to new additions microflow can detect minor inflammations. Ultrasound images of the musculoskeletal system provide pictures of muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, nerves and soft tissues throughout the body.

Why would I need a Hip ultrasound?

Hip pain can arise from many causes. Ultrasound scans can monitor and diagnose conditions. At Sonorad, our advanced ultrasound equipment allows us to detect a wide range of conditions affecting the hip, including:

  • Trochanteric bursitis (inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs near the hip)

  • Tendonitis or tendinopathy in the gluteal tendons

  • Muscle tears or strains, especially in the hip flexors or abductors

  • Hip joint effusion (fluid build-up indicating inflammation or injury)

  • Synovitis or arthritis-related changes

  • Labral tears (indirect findings)

  • Iliopsoas bursitis

  • Cysts or soft tissue masses

  • Guidance for corticosteroid injections or aspirations

Our radiologists will provide a detailed report, often with same-day or next-day turnaround, to help guide your ongoing treatment plan.
